WiDi beef - why is this such a hassle, Intel?

1. This Intel site link for WiDi compatibility is outdated even though it says last updated in 2013. The last i7 processor shown is from early 2011: Intel Wireless Display — System requirements for the Intel Wireless Display

2. This is the processor I have: ARK | Intel® Core™ i7-3610QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)

I purchased the loaded up 17R Special Edition from Dell in the fall of 2012. Blu-ray, 3D, i7, lots of ram, SSD...loaded.

When I go through the process to load the Intel WiDi software it says the now-infamous "This platform is not compatible with Intel(R) WiDi blah blah"

I followed every known step - all Intel wireless software is up to date, Intel WiFi dashboard is installed...anything else that is required is done, from what I can tell from the internet.

So, I contacted Dell ProSupport and they were useless. US-based premium business support and useless. They cited the outdated first link I posted and couldn't understand that the second link overrides that since it distinctly says that my processor is capable of WiDi with its integrated HD 4000 graphics and plain-as-day blue box with "YES" in the middle re: WiDi compatibility.

I keep seeing "order the system with WiDi installed" when this comes up but that doesn't make sense. And what does that mean, exactly? If I have all of the latest everything, why shouldn't I be able to run it by installing some software? Is there something special that is installed at the factory? I doubt it.

So, why is this so hard, Intel? What kind of magic sauce do you rub on the stuff inside of computers "at the factory" to make it work with WiDi?
