I have a Sony Vaio Pro 13 ultrabook with a Core i7-4500U processor (Intel HD4400 graphics). I've installed the Windows 8.1 preview but have been having some odd problems with it: graphical artifacts in IE, the HD graphics configuration program crashes, and the machine reboots itself upon sleep saying that the PC encountered a problem.
Last night I was excited to see that Intel released drivers for 8.1, so I installed the 64-bit option (as my machine is x64), but before the installation even completed my display went nuts. The best way to describe it is turning on a TV channel you don't have a signal on and seeing random static and flickering. Upon reboot everything displays fine until Windows loads, then the static returns and the system is completely unusable.
I then rebooted the system in Safe Mode and uninstalled the drivers. This reverted the problem, but I am now back to my original issues with the old drivers.
Am I doing something wrong, or are these drivers just not well tested? When can we expect a more stable driver release for Win 8.1 Preview?
